Tropical Cyclone Gale warning remains

A Tropical Cyclone Gale warning remains in force for whole of Fiji group as Tropical cyclone Mick lies 260km North-North West of Nadi or 340km West North West of Labasa, and 176km North-North West of Yasawa-i-rara at 2am today.

The warning is for Vanualevu, Taveuni, Vitilevu, Yasawa and Mamanuca, Lomaiviti group and nearby smaller islands.

Strong wind warning remains in force for Rotuma.

Director Rajendra Prasad has projected that the Tropical Cyclone Mick may pass between Viti Levu and Vanualevu on its current path later this afternoon.

Strong winds and heavy rain continue for most parts of the Northern Division.

People in Taveuni are facing strong winds and occasional heavy rainfall from last night.

Taveuni Police station Special Police Constable, Maria Moapa said the weather is worsening in the Garden Island.

Meanwhile strong winds are picking up in Savusavu and Taveuni.

Special Constable from the Taveuni Police Station, Pita Makaba said they are facing the full brunt of the situation.

As a result of the strong winds currently being felt in Taveuni, the Works Ministry will be shutting down power supply in Waiyevo this hour.

Spokesperson Sainiana Waqainabete said this has been done for safety reasons.
