A family holiday to Fiji became a journey of discovery for the Khan family from Brisbane, who visited the National Archives of Fiji to trace their ancestry and learn more about their family's history.
Safeen Khan, who was born and raised in Labasa before moving to Australia, visited the Archives with his wife, Nazia Ali, and their two children as part of a trip back home.
Speaking to fijivillage News, Khan says one of the main reasons for visiting the National Archives was to learn more about where their ancestors came from and to help their children better understand their roots.

He says the family was delighted to discover information about their lineage, including details about their great-great-grandfathers.
Khan says the visit coincided with the National Archives' Open Day, giving the family a unique opportunity to see first-hand how historical documents are preserved and protected for future generations.
He describes the experience as both informative and enjoyable, particularly for the children, who were fascinated by the conservation process and the care taken to preserve records that are more than a century old.
Khan says it was special to return home and see that these important records still exist, allowing families like his to connect with their history and pass that knowledge on to future generations.
His wife, Nazia Ali, echoed those sentiments, saying it was exciting to learn more about the history contained within the Archives and the work that goes into preserving it.
