Farmers charged with unlawful cultivation of illicit drugs

Two farmers of Naikorokoro village in Sanima, Kadavu appeared before Magistrate Lashika Fernando in Suva today.

Osea Baselala, 35 years and Preston Kobiti, 25 years are charged with unlawful cultivation of illicit drugs, valued at 413.4kg.

Baselala is also charged with criminal intimidation.

He is alleged to have pulled out a knife and tried to attack the Post Master in Kadavu.

His case is referred to Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili tomorrow to hear an application for psychiatric assessment.

Meanwhile Kobiti is released on $500 cash bail and to sign in for three days a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Valelevu Police Station.

Both are not to change their addresses.

Plea is expected to be heard on the 23rd of this month.
