The Fiji Kulas have gone down 1-0 to Papua New Guinea in their final Group B match of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 Oceania Qualifiers, but their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup remain alive.
Both teams were locked nil-all at halftime in a tightly contested first half, with strong defensive work keeping the game level.
The second half saw increased pressure, but it was PNG who broke through with the only goal of the match to finish top of Group B.
Despite the loss, Fiji has advanced to the semi-finals and now faces a tough test against New Zealand next month in New Zealand.
This is a must-win game for the Kulas if they are to continue their campaign and secure a spot in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027.
PNG will take on American Samoa, the runners-up of Group A, in the other semi-final.
