Thousands of people paid tribute to the late 24 year old Police Constable 8012 Peniasi Waqawai Racagi as he left Suva for his home in Bua, Vanua Levu, where he was laid to rest.

It was an emotional scene as his body departed Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva, escorted by officers from the Fiji Police Force led by Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu.

People from all walks of life lined the road from Suva to Natovi to bid Racagi a final farewell.

The fallen officer will be remembered as a brave policeman who died in the line of duty in Lami.

Many were seen weeping along the roadside, holding messages of comfort and tribute for Racagi and his grieving family.

When the cortege arrived in Vanua Levu, the same respect was shown as people, including relatives and community members, gathered along the road to bid their son and hero a final goodbye.

The church service was filled with police officers from around the country and relatives of the deceased as they gathered to attend his final church service in his village.

Tudravu could not hold back his emotions as he spoke highly of the officer who gave his life in the line of duty.

He says it hurt him deeply to farewell a comrade who died while serving under his command.

He added that the officer had brought so much joy and pride to his vanua and family, and that sacrificing his life in the line of duty meant the world to him.

Tudravu also wished and prayed for comfort for the family and the vanua as they come to terms with his passing during this difficult time.
