Firefighters digging for the fire hydrant while the Lautoka Hospital was on fire

The National Fire Authority and Water Authority of Fiji is now conducting an investigation to try and find out why there was no fire hydrant infront of the Lautoka Hospital.

Firefighters had to dig the allocated fire hydrant area infront of the hospital yesterday morning as they looked for water to try and control the blaze at the hospital’s operating theatre and x-ray department.

Firefighters had to then get water from a source behind the hospital.

Chief Fire Officer Qionilau Moceitai has confirmed that they are looking into the issue as they continue to investigate how the fire started at the Lautoka Hospital.

157 patients were evacuated during the incident and services at the General Outpatients Department, Special Outpatients Department and X‑ray Department at the hospital have been temporarily suspended.
