The Queen Victoria School community gathered this morning at My Suva Park for to speak up against violence against women and girls.
While speaking at the “QVS Strides for Strength – Walk Against Violence, Walk for Inclusion” event, QVS Principal Waliki Nasau says the walk was more than a symbolic gesture, it was a stand for unity, respect, safety, and inclusion.
Nasau emphasised that the students' presence reflected leadership, community service, and the values the school is instilling in its young men.
He also stated that the initiative aligns with the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence and the International Day for Persons with Disabilities.
Minister for Women and Children, Sashi Kiran stressed that gender-based violence is not merely a family issue but a national crisis requiring a united response.
While highlighting the rising threat of technology-facilitated abuse, Kiran says sexual violence against children remains one of the most widespread crimes in Fiji.
She also posed a powerful question to the men in society that if men realise they are hurting their loved ones, why are they not seeking help to heal, reform, and relearn their behaviour.
Kiran acknowledged the support of the QVS Old Boys and says their voice is among the most influential in Fiji.
