Nasinu resident raises concern over daylight robberies in Manikoso settlement

A resident of Nasinu has raised concerns about daylight robberies occurring in the settlement, saying that homes are being broken into while owners are away.

Manikoso resident Margret Bennion says it is difficult to identify those responsible as the incidents often happen when neighbours are not around or are away at religious activities or other engagements.

She says when residents return home, they sometimes find their homes broken into.

Bennion says while some people blame youths from nearby areas, it is hard to point fingers at anyone because no one actually sees who commits the thefts.

She is urging people living in the area to take responsibility and work towards improving their situation rather than turning to crime.

Bennion also says there are job opportunities available and young people should look for work such as gardening or other labour to support their families instead of getting involved in drugs and stealing.

She adds that community discussions such as talanoa sessions could also help guide youths and encourage them to make better choices.
