We have lost the zone before and went on to win the Coke Games - Delai

Despite the short turnaround after the Suva Zone 2, Coca-Cola Games boys defending champion, Suva Grammar School has prepared well for the defence of their title.

Coach and former sprint champion, Jone Delai says it is now for the athletes to deliver in the 3 day competition.

Delai says they have lost the zone title to Marist previously but have gone on to win the Coke Games title.

Grammar secured the Coca-Cola Games boys division title last year after winning 11 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze.

They came second in the zone this year with 17 gold, 20 silver and 20 bronze.

Marist won the zone with 27 gold, 25 silver and 20 bronze.

3,156 athletes from 151 schools will take part in this year's Coca-Cola Games.

Coca-Cola EuroPacific Marketing Manager Lawrence Tikaram says this will make it the biggest games ever.

Tikaram has also encouraged all schools to allow their athletes to speak to the media as this will encourage character building.

He says rather than placing media bans, teachers should help groom the athletes for future national duties.

Tikaram further says the media plays an important part in the character building for these athletes and building their confidence in order to face the media in the future.

Grandstand tickets are sold out while the grass and embankment tickets are still available.

The Coke Games starts at 8am today at the HFC Bank Stadium.
