Residents of Wakanisila Settlement in the Kalabu area have pleaded to the Government to consider infrastructure upgrades.

During the Ministry of Finance, Strategic Planning, National Development and Statistics nationwide public consultation on the new National Development Plan, the residents say the infrastructure includes road maintenance, upgrade of community halls, adequate bus services, construction of bus shelters, upgrade of bridges, upgrade of sporting facilities and formalization of the informal settlement.

They have also raised concerns about traffic being a major issue raised by the residents of Kalabu and Saioni Methodist areas.

The residents have also pleaded with the Government to ensure health services are provided 24 hours, particularly dental services and affordable morgue services given the high population in area.

Some other concerns that were raised were the need for adequate sporting facilities which will enable Fiji to combat high NCD rates, increase in community policing, bus and back-to-school subsidy, and government pension.

The Ministry of Finance, Strategic Planning, National Development and Statistics continue their public consultations today.
