The Duke and Duchess of Sussex Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have wrapped up their jam‑packed first day of their Australian tour with a royal reception.

Australian Governor‑General Peter Cosgrove and his wife, Lady Cosgrove, hosted the expectant parents during a reception at Admiralty House.

The event was attended by Australians from a broad range of sectors, including charity and community, business and industry, arts and culture, and sport and entertainment.

During Prince Harry’s opening remarks, he shared his excitement to be back in Australia alongside his new wife, who he noted was visiting for the first time.

Prince Harry and Meghan visited Sydney's Taronga Zoo and were introduced to two joeys named after them to mark their marriage.

Thousands of people congregated around Sydney Opera House, where the couple took part in a walkabout.

They were given soft toys, flowers and other gifts by well‑wishers.

The Royal Couple will tour Fiji from next Tuesday till next Thursday.
