Planet Rugby dubs Drua winger Rakuro as the next Caucaunibuca

Fijian Drua winger, Taniela Rakuro

One of the top rugby websites Planet Rugby has dubbed Swire Shipping Fijian Drua winger Taniela Rakuro as the next Rupeni Caucaunibuca.

Caucaunibuca is a former Flying Fijians winger who was known for his blistering speed out wide and beating defenders with his side steps that left the defenders biting the dust.

In a post, Planet Rugby says although Rakuro is not quite as stocky as the legendary Caucaunibuca, he has that ability to eat up the ground and easily shrug off defenders.

Rakuro was not a first-choice winger last year, but he was shining every time he got onto the field as he scored four tries in seven matches for the Drua last season.

Rakuro scored two tries in the Drua’s first pre-season match against the Brumbies earlier this month where the Drua lost 43-40.

The Vusama, Nadroga man is expected to get more game time this year after the departure of Kalaveti Ravouvou to the Bristol Bears.

The Drua have now turned their focus to their Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific round 1 clash against the Blues at 3.35pm this Saturday in Auckland.

In other matches this week, the Chiefs will take on the Crusaders at 6.05pm this Friday at FMG Stadium in Waikato, the Rebels will play the Brumbies at 8.35pm Friday in Melbourne, the Force will take on the Hurricanes at 11pm Friday at HBF Park, the Highlanders will host the Moana Pasifika at 6.05pm Saturday in Dunedin and the Reds will take on the Waratahs at 9.05pm Saturday at Suncorp Stadium.
