Fiji has launched its first-ever Women’s Economic Empowerment National Action Plan (2025–2030), which aims to increase women’s participation in the workforce from 32 percent to 60 percent by 2030.
While speaking during the launch at the Ba Women’s Forum Complex in Ba, Kiran says the plan, funded by the Australian Government, will also grow women’s ownership of registered micro, small, and medium businesses from 19 percent to 50 percent by 2029, and raise women’s representation in Parliament from 10 percent to 30 percent.
Kiran says the plan was created after listening to women vendors, artisans, entrepreneurs, and community leaders across Fiji who shared their dreams and challenges.
She says when women rise, families and communities rise with them.
WEE NAP Secretariat Vera Chute says the Plan is a shared roadmap for action.
Chute says the Women’s Economic Empowerment Plan is not just a document — it’s a call for everyone to work together, turning promises into real results.
Also present, was Australia’s Ambassador for Gender Equality, Michelle O'Byrne who congratulated the Government of Fiji, and all involved in the development of the plan.
O’Byrne says that gender equality benefits everyone, and is a necessary foundation for peace, prosperity, and stability.
She says it is not a “side issue” but a side issue, and that it is not a “special interest” but a national interest”
Following the launch, the Ministry will begin district-level women’s forums across Fiji, starting with today’s forum in Ba.
These meetings will raise awareness about the Plan, share Government programs, and allow women to share their views on how to make support systems stronger.
