Swire Shipping Fijian Drua halfback Peni Matawalu is confident that the team will have another great year this year at the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific competition.

During an interview with fijivillage News, Matawalu says last year, the team had an awesome run in the competition and also made history by reaching the quarter final in just their second year in the competition.

He says this year, they are looking forward to going one better and also trying to secure a home quarter final.

The 26-year-old says the hard work has already started and the team are just eager to get onto the field again.

Matawalu says he has set a goal for himself as well and that is to get as much game time as he can get and secure his place again in the Flying Fijians squad for the upcoming June and July tests.

The Dama, Norotubu in Ra man has also set his target on working hard to earn a spot in the Flying Fijians squad for the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

Peni is the younger brother of former Flying Fijians halfback Nikola Matawalu.

Matawalu and the Drua will play their last pre-season match this Friday against the Melbourne Rebels at 5.30pm in Melbourne. They will play the Blues next Saturday at 3.35pm in Auckland in their first Super Rugby Pacific match this year.
