Liz Truss will be the new UK Prime Minister after defeating Rishi Sunak in the Tory leadership contest.

Truss had been the frontrunner for weeks, and the 47-year-old will now follow Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May to become Britain's third female premier.

In her victory speech, Truss pledged to cut taxes and "deliver" on a plan to tackle the energy crisis.
