Fiji is set to host a high-level Pre-COP meeting in 2026, ahead of the United Nations Climate Change Conference to be held in Antalya in November.

The decision, endorsed by Cabinet, positions Fiji at the forefront of global climate diplomacy, as leaders and negotiators gather to shape priorities before formal negotiations begin at COP31.

The Pre-COP meeting, supported by the Australian Government, will bring together key international stakeholders to address critical issues and build consensus ahead of the main conference.

For Fiji and the wider Pacific, the meeting presents an important platform to elevate regional concerns.

Small island nations are expected to push strongly for increased climate finance, stronger ocean protection measures, and urgent action to keep temperature rise within the 1.5°C limit.

Fiji’s role as host underscores its ongoing leadership in climate advocacy, building on its presidency of COP23.

It also reinforces the country’s commitment to ensuring Pacific voices remain central in global climate negotiations.

By convening the Pre-COP, Fiji will help shape early discussions, influence negotiation priorities, and strengthen momentum toward meaningful outcomes at COP31.
