Methodist Church urges youths to tackle drug abuse and HIV

Drug abuse and HIV are among the key issues the Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma is urging young people to address, as it works to empower youths to support one another across the country.
This was highlighted by the Church’s Youth Secretary, Reverend Viliame Tunidau, during a sermon to 77 youths at the Centenary Church in Suva on Resurrection Sunday.
Reverend Tunidau says this is a critical time for young people to take up purposeful missions, particularly in responding to the growing concerns around drug abuse and HIV.
He stresses that youths must step forward to assist their peers, noting that peer-to-peer support is key in tackling these challenges.
Tunidau adds that the nation is facing serious social issues, and empowering young people to help one another is an important step in combating these problems.
The Church has also organised a forum with its youth arm, Youth Volunteer on Mission, to prepare young people to serve and provide spiritual support nationwide.
He further says many parents are fearing for the lives of their children, and now is the time to rise above these challenges, reflecting on the message of Christ’s resurrection.
The service continues with a focus on the life of Jesus Christ and the significance of the resurrection.
