Children were identified as the most vulnerable group, affected by poverty, crime, drugs, and online risks during the 5th Fiji National Hindu Conference held at the Harbour Point Conventional Hall in Lami.
The issue of the alarming rise in drug and crime was highlighted during the panel discussions, where Fiji Police Force Director of Community Policing Salanieta Radaniva says the Fiji Police Force remains in control.
Radaniva stresses that solutions require a collective effort, urging families, religious groups, and communities to spread positive messages during gatherings and festivals.
Meanwhile, Online Safety Commission Engagement Advisor Tajeshwari Devi explained how the Commission assists those who are detained after the initial report has been investigated.
Devi explained that there are four key jurisdictions of assessing reports that include cyberbullying, cyber stalking, internet trolling, and image-based abuse.
She adds that after receiving a complaint, they assess the nature of defamation and then let the complainant know about it, and people can later seek legal help.
The conference’s discussions underscored the importance of unity in addressing social issues, reflecting its theme of “United Communities, Stronger Fiji.”
