Heavily clogged dam outlet screens or dislocated raw water trunk mains suspected to be the cause of water disruptions - WAF

A Field 40 Lautoka resident says he is frustrated as there has been no water supply since last Saturday as the Water Authority of Fiji confirms some parts of Lautoka will be experiencing low water pressure to no water until further notice.

Dinesh Kumar says they have been calling the Water Authority of Fiji’s 5777 number but they have been put on hold for a long time and they have lost hope in calling that number.

Kumar says they have not had any water carting either in Field 40.

He says it has been hard on their family as they also have small children.

WAF confirms that the interruption in supply is suspected to be the result of heavily clogged dam outlet screens or dislocated raw water trunk mains along with the river crossings, resulting in no raw water inflow to the Saru Water Treatment Plant for production.

Affected areas include Field 40, Wairabetia, Lauwaki, Viseisei Back Road, Saru Back Road, Wairabetia Muslim School Road, Navula, Saru Tawatawa, Natabua, Banaras, Vuda Back Road and Lawaki Settlement to Miki’s Supermarket.

WAF has again advised people living in these areas to store sufficient amounts of water to last them for at least 2 to 3 days.

They say water carting trucks are on standby to service the affected areas during the temporary disruption period.

We have sent questions to the Water Authority of Fiji with regards to specific issues raised by the resident.

They are yet to respond.
