Australia has provided $30 million to the Fijian Government to help address the country’s ongoing fuel crisis.

This has been highlighted by Australia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Penny Wong, during a joint press conference today.

Wong noted that this is her eighth visit to Fiji, underscoring the strengthening of bilateral ties under the Vuvale Partnership and a shared commitment to addressing Fiji’s needs and challenges.

She adds that both countries are facing fuel supply pressures and are working together on solutions, with the aim of supporting Fiji’s role as a regional leader in the Pacific.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka reminded Fijians that cooperation with Australia also extends to combating transnational crime and maintaining national security, which he described as a key pillar of stability.

Rabuka says Australia has strengthened Fiji’s capacity in intelligence sharing and demonstrated mutual respect by facilitating training opportunities for Fijian personnel in Australia.

He also confirmed that both governments are actively pursuing measures to secure a more consistent fuel supply for Fiji.

Rabuka says Fiji will continue to work with Australia to uphold peace and stability in the nation.
