A police vehicle chase this morning resulted in two officers sustaining injuries and three people under arrest, following the seizure of white substances believed to be methamphetamine at the Laqere checkpoint.
Police say the joint operations team manning the Laqere checkpoint had directed the vehicle to stop, but the driver refused, and police pursued the suspects towards the Tovata/Makoi area.
They say the suspects drove back towards Suva, where they drove into the roadblock and bumped a police officer.
The chase ended with a multiple-vehicle collision between police and the suspects, a few meters from the Laqere checkpoint.
The officer on checkpoint duties sustained serious injuries and is currently admitted at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, while the second officer, who was travelling in the police vehicle, is being treated at the Valelevu Health Centre.
The three suspects, one of whom has a known criminal history, are admitted at the CWM Hospital under police guard.
Police say a search conducted in the suspect's vehicle resulted in the seizure of white substances believed to be methamphetamine and alleged house break-in tools.
They say the joint task force will continue its surge operations, warning that such attacks on members of the operations team will not be taken lightly.
