Local entrepreneurs and co-operatives in the Western Division have received a major boost, with more than $950,000 in funding strengthening small businesses and local economies.

Minister for Finance, Commerce and Business Development Esrom Immanuel says the support provided through the Integrated Human Resource Development Programme is intended to help businesses grow, create jobs and improve livelihoods.

The Ministry says 14 small businesses received more than $900,000, while three co-operatives received close to $50,000, with communities also contributing alongside the Government.

The Ministry says the initiative is not just about financial assistance, but about building sustainable businesses.

It says the support should be seen as a partnership rather than a handout, adding that it is aimed at empowering entrepreneurs to expand their operations and contribute meaningfully to the economy.

The Ministry further says that over the past five years, more than $4 million has been invested in the programme, with over 60 percent of beneficiaries based in the Western Division.

It adds that in Ba Province alone, more than $470,000 has been invested in sectors such as agriculture and tourism, helping businesses scale up and access new markets.

The Ministry is also urging recipients to make the most of the support provided, stressing that they should grow their businesses responsibly, protect their investments and ensure long-term sustainability, as the success of each small business contributes to building a stronger Fiji.

The investments are expected to create wider benefits for families and communities across the Western Division as businesses expand and create new opportunities.
