The Reserve Bank of Fiji has received the runner up award for the Best New Coin Series at the 2010 Currency Conference in Buenos Aires.

During the Third International Association of Currency Affairs "Excellence in Currency" Awards, held at the 2010 Currency Conference in Buenos Aires, the Reserve Bank of Fiji received the Runner-Up Award for the Best New Coin Series, sharing the award with the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey.

The award recognizes the excellent new circulation coins series introduced by the two countries.

Governor of Reserve Bank Sada Reddy said the introduction of the new coins was a major milestone for Fiji and for the RBF to receive this award puts Fiji's new coins amongst the best in the world, something that we should all be proud of.

The new coin series comprises smaller, thinner and lighter 5, 10, 20, 50 cents and $1 coins.

The new coins were issued into circulation on 16 February 2009 to coincide with 40 years of decimal currency in Fiji.
