Woman to pass on solar engineering techniques to villagers
Maria Seremana of Nakorovou, Vanua Levu said looking back she feels that it was not possible at all what she has since learnt as an ordinary housewife in Bua to becoming one of Fiji’s first solar engineers.

Seremana is one of the 10 iTaukei women who arrived back home this morning after completing their six month studies at Barefoot College in India.

In her village that is still without electricity Seremana told Fijivillage that she will head a committee of five, training them on how to install solar power in 48 homes.

The training she said will cover assembling to wiring to the after maintenance of solar lanterns and panels.

The 10 women will be given a kit each consisting of 500 components which will help them install and maintain their solar sources.

Seremana describes her studies as one the best experiences in her life and returns to her village tomorrow.
