Solar lights improve safety and security in Namosi villages and settlements

Villages and settlements in Namosi are benefiting from improved safety and security following the installation of solar lights under a government initiative aimed at lighting up rural communities.

The Ministry of Housing and Local Government has continued its solar lights programme with the recent installation of lights in the villages of Lobau, Qilai, Wainikasiniura and Wainadoi, as well as two settlements in Namosi Province.

Minister for Housing and Local Government Maciu Nalumisa says the initiative is aimed at improving safety and security while creating brighter communal spaces for residents.

Nalumisa says the solar lights will provide safer walkways for children, women and the elderly, particularly during the night.

He says the lights will also support community gatherings and other activities after dark, allowing residents to make better use of communal areas.

The Minister adds that the programme promotes the use of clean and sustainable energy solutions in rural communities.

The solar lights initiative began almost two years ago and forms part of Government's efforts to build safer, brighter and more resilient villages across Fiji.

Government says it remains committed to extending the programme to more communities around the country.
