More than 50 solar streetlights have been installed in villages in Namalata, Tailevu, to improve safety and visibility for residents, particularly children and families moving around at night.

The project is being carried out by the Yavusa Tai Development Fund and is financed by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The project will see solar streetlights installed in four villages in the Namalata District.

So far, 22 solar streetlights have been installed in Nakalawaca Village, located behind the old Fulton College, while 30 streetlights have been installed in Matacaucau Village.

Work has also started in Veinuqa Village as part of the wider Namalata District Solar Streetlights Project yesterday.

The Mata ni Tikina of Namalata Ilatia Savai says the solar streetlights will greatly assist villagers, particularly at night, and provide greater safety for children moving around the communities.

He says the villages are grateful for the assistance and the improvements the project is bringing to their communities.

The Yavusa Tai Development Fund says the initiative is focused on improving the lives of people living in rural communities.
