Akariva Vura, who is originally from Nacavanadi Village, says he operates a weekly freight service for villages and settlements around Gau.
Vura says he transports hardware materials, groceries and personal belongings to the island every week, making reliable road access important for families and businesses that depend on the service.
However, he says his truck has been unable to reach some areas in recent weeks because sections of the road have become difficult to use.
Vura says heavy trucks transporting harvested pine from Narocake towards Nawaikama have contributed to damage along parts of the road.

He says sections of the road have become slippery and developed a number of potholes, making it difficult for his truck to travel through some areas.
Vura says he raised the issue with the Fiji Roads Authority about three weeks ago and requested that the road be upgraded.
He says reliable roads are becoming increasingly important as development continues on Gau and more vehicles and trucks are being used on the island.
Vura is calling on the Fiji Roads Authority to carry out further repair and maintenance work so freight services and residents can reliably access communities around the island.
