Whatever may come my way, I am gonna grab it with both hands and do my best.

These are the comments made by 20-year-old Swire Shipping Fijian Drua halfback Philip Baseselala when questioned by fijivillage Sports on his thoughts that he is on Fiji Water Flying Fijians coach Mick Byrne’s radar for national duties in the July test matches.

Baselala says he is thankful for the opportunities the coach has given him and trusting him to start during their 38-7 win over the Force yesterday in Lautoka’s Churchill Park.

He also acknowledged the Drua players, saying that without them, he could not have scored his first try in Super Rugby Pacific.

He thanked the fans for turning up in numbers to support them during the final home game this season.

Baselala was very influential during the Drua’s match against the Force in Lautoka.

He scored one try, made 3 carries and 2 defenders beaten.

He also recorded 44 metres gain.

Meanwhile, Byrne is keeping a close eye on Baselala, given the current situation with the halfbacks, especially with the exclusion of Frank Lomani, who injured his shoulder during this Super Rugby Pacific season and is recovering after undergoing surgery.

With the June tests coming up in a few weeks, Byrne is trying to strengthen the halfback position and he and his coaching team are keen to see young Baselala get some game time.

Byrne says they have been monitoring Baselala’s progress, and this could be Baselala’s opportunity to earn selection.

The Flying Fijians will have two test matches against the Wallabies on the 6th of July in Newcastle and Scotland on the 12th of July at the HFC Bank Stadium before the PNC kicks off on the 22nd of August.
