Fiji men's 7s team captain Jerry Tuwai and Fijiana 7s team captain Rusila Nagasau will be Team Fiji’s flag bearers at the Tokyo Olympics.

They will carry the Fiji flag at the opening ceremony on the 23rd of this month.

In a statement, FASANOC says Tuwai is one of Fiji’s most prolific 7s athletes to ever don Fiji’s jersey.

He was the 2019 World Rugby Player of the Year and has gone on to win three World Rugby 7s Series titles, an Olympic Gold medal in 2016 and is a three-time World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year nominee.

Tuwai is also the World Rugby Men's 7s Player of the Decade.

FASANOC says Tuwai not only brings with him exceptional talent, courage under fire, athleticism and flair but also humility, friendship, excellence and respect.

It says Tuwai truly personifies the Olympic Values.

Tuwai is the only Fijian player to have won five straight Hong Kong 7s titles (2015 – 2019).

He is also a two-time World Rugby 7s Series winner in 2015 and 2019 and is a Commonwealth Games Silver medallist.

Nagasau has been on the sporting scene since 2003 with football and switched codes to rugby in 2007.

She was instrumental in helping the Fijiana qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games when she scored four tries in the 2015 Oceania Women's 7s Championship against Samoa in the final.

FASANOC says Nagasau has been part of the Fiji Women’s Rugby Union from when they started and has remained with rugby despite numerous opportunities to return to soccer.

She is a very disciplined player, on and off the field.

FASANOC adds Nagasau maybe the eldest member of the Fijiana 7s team, but her fitness, commitment and experience are second to none.

Nagasau is also part of the Fiji Rugby Development volunteer team that carries out rugby focused community outreach programs.
