US Open champion Naomi Osaka came from behind to beat Latvia's Anastasija Sevastova and reach the Australian Open quarter‑finals.

The Japanese fourth seed won 2 sets to set up a meeting with sixth seed Elina Svito-lina.

Elsewhere, Serena Williams outlined why she is the favourite to win the Australian Open with a 3 set win over top seed Simona Halep in a high‑quality last‑16 match.

Czech seventh seed Karolina Pliskova will now face American 23‑time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams in the quarter‑finals.

In the first quarterfinal today, Anastasia Pavly-u-chen-kova will face Danielle Rose Collins and in the second quarterfinal Petra Kvitová will take on Australia’s Ashleigh Barty.

In the men’s Australian Open quarterfinals, second seed Rafael Nadal will take on Frances Tiafoe, while Novak Djokavic will face Kei Nishikori.

In the last two quarterfinals, Milos Raonic will meet Lucas Pouille and Roberto Bautista Agut will meet Stefanos Tsitsipas.
