Savusavu man, Tolu Young has set a new Fiji record and personal best at the US Open Swim Championships, clocking 55.27 seconds in the 100 metre butterfly event.
The 19-year-old has also made history as the first Fijian to qualify for the US Open Championships Men’s 50 metres freestyle final, where he finished 7th in a highly competitive field in Texas.
Young earned his place in the final after being ranked 6th in the qualifying line-up and delivered another standout performance by beating American sprint superstar Caeleb Dressel in the process.
He also established a new Fiji record in the 50 metres freestyle heats, stopping the clock at 21.92 seconds.
