With its 100-year milestone approaching, the Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) Sangam will hold a series of nationwide events to mark the “Road to 100 Years”.
TISI Sangam Fiji Chief Executive Officer, Jai Narayan, emphasises that these events honour the decades of selfless volunteerism that have sustained the organisation across all eleven districts.
Narayan highlights that, as part of the “Road to 100 Years” campaign, the Nadi and Suva temples are undergoing significant restoration to commemorate the milestone.
Narayan says Sangam Fiji continues to champion the mother tongue and cultural arts, with three Tamil language teachers appointed to Sangam schools and two additional teachers expected in 2026.
He further says that an upcoming Charity Queens contest will feature students from Sangam’s five high schools.
Meanwhile, Narayan also highlights that during Tropical Cyclone Winston in 2016, Sangam Fiji mobilised one of its largest relief operations, distributing hot meals, kitchen appliances, bedding, and school stationery to affected families across the country.
He adds that they also delivered grocery packs, stationery, and school bags to communities and schools in the Northern Division, and for six months, daily lunches were provided to all students in affected schools.
Narayan explains that during the COVID-19 pandemic, Sangam partnered with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade and the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade to deploy nursing graduates from the Sangam College of Nursing to hospitals across Viti Levu.
He says Sangam also supported aged care facilities with staffing and resources funded by the Australian Government.
He invites all Fijians and members of the global diaspora to join in commemorating this historic milestone.
The celebration are expected to be held next year during Easter weekend.
