Tributes are pouring in for Randwick Rugby Club icon Peter Meagher, who was among the 15 victims killed in Sunday’s terrorist attack at Bondi.

Meagher, the grandson of Wallabies Hall of Fame member Wally Meagher and son of a former Randwick President, was a well-loved figure in the rugby community. He won the club’s WT Outterside Club Volunteer of the Year award in 2020 and served as Randwick’s first-grade team manager since 2018.

According to reports, Meagher was on assignment at Bondi Beach as a photographer when the attack occurred.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed the shooting deliberately targeted a Jewish Hanukkah festival.

Randwick Rugby says Meagher previously served as a police officer before taking up amateur photography in retirement, alongside his long-standing service to rugby union.

The club says that for much of the last decade, Meagher had been their trusted First Grade Manager, and the news has devastated players, coaches, volunteers, and supporters.

He was also a highly respected referee, well known across Sydney’s rugby circles.

EmaiIt is Australia’s worst mass shooting since 1996, when the Port Arthur massacre prompted the implementation of gun control Meagher had previously worked as a police officer before taking up amateur photography in retirement, in addition to his service to rugby union.
