Nalele Village and Semo Village were commended for their swift support following the collapse of a section of the Queens Highway, where a Government delegation led by the Minister for Public Works and Transport, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, conveyed deep appreciation.
The collapse occurred on the 11th of this month and disrupted travel between Nadi, Sigatoka and most parts of Viti Levu.
In response, the Vanua generously and without hesitation provided land for the construction of a temporary bypass, enabling the safe flow of traffic while repair works were carried out.
The visit also provided villagers with an opportunity to raise key infrastructure challenges facing their communities, including access to clean drinking water, upgrades to village access roads, and ongoing road maintenance needs.
Village leaders expressed appreciation for the in-person engagement and for the update on current plans and future development priorities for the area.
The engagement reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to working closely with the Vanua and communities, recognising their crucial role in ensuring continuity, safety, and resilience during national infrastructure emergencies.
