The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s side will need to lift their performance this week at the HSBC SVNS New York 7s if they want to claim the 2025/2026 World 7s Series title.
They are currently tied with South Africa at 86 points and will need to finish higher than South Africa in New York to secure the series title.
The New York tournament is the final of the 2025/2026 World 7s Series, which started in Dubai last year and included Cape Town, Singapore, Perth and Vancouver.
The HSBC SVNS World Championship will kick off in Hong Kong next month from the 17th to the 19th of April at Kai Tek Sports Park, also celebrating 50 years of sevens rugby.
The Championship Series then moves to Valladolid, Spain, and then to Bordeaux, France.
Argentina are the defending men’s 2024/2025 World 7s Series champions, while New Zealand are the defending women’s champions.
The Fiji Men's side retained the Singapore 7s title this season, finished third in Dubai, Cape Town and Vancouver, and placed second in Perth.
South Africa has also been impressive this season with three tournament wins in Cape Town, Perth and Vancouver.
They will also be eyeing the series title after coming close to Argentina last season.
Meanwhile, the Fiji men’s team will open their New York 7s campaign against Argentina at 2am Sunday, followed by Great Britain at 4.56am and Spain at 8.14am in their final pool match.
The men’s Cup semi-finals will kick off at 4.28am on Monday, while the Cup final is scheduled for 8.41am.
