The Head of the Catholic Church in Fiji, Archbishop Peter Loy Chong says Police are not effectively doing their job on the ground when it comes to dealing with drug dealers.
While speaking on fijivillage Straight Talk With Vijay Narayan, Archbishop Chong says they have heard from people that there are many places where drugs are being sold and these people have filed reports of drugs being sold in their neighbourhoods but Police are not taking action.
Archbishop Chong asks if some legal reforms can be done to address the issue about the powers of the Police.
He also highlighted a place in Nasinu where many people know a drug dealer’s house but nothing is being done by Police.

Archbishop Chong says law enforcement has to be strong to suppress the supply of the drugs, and it will give confidence to the people who are filing reports.
He says the church’s strength is to build strong families and communities, and to also work with the young people.
Archbishop Chong adds there is an urgent need to have values education in our curriculum.
He says any drug response must address the person who is not complete and dealing with the hard realities.
The Head of the Catholic Church in Fiji says Sunday or weekend services are not enough, and we need to do more to deal with the drug crisis.
Leading minister of Christian Mission Fellowship International Central Region and Senior Pastor of Faith Harvest Church, Reverend Manasa Kolivuso says they have been told the drugs is moved before the Police conduct raids.
He says more needs to be done when it comes to law enforcement.
Reverend Kolivuso says if we cannot live in denial then we cannot solve this problem.
He adds the Minister for Policing, Ioane Naivalurua has rightly said this is a matter of national survival, this is not a matter of national security.
