The Fiji U-19 women’s football team will kick off their campaign in the OFC U-19 Women’s Championship today when they take on the Cook Islands in Tahiti.
Head coach Angeline Chua says the side has taken full advantage of their early arrival, with players adjusting well to the conditions and developing strong team chemistry.
She says the players are more mature now, especially after the experience they gained at the Women’s Nations Cup.
She adds that their main goal is to progress to the semifinals, and they will take it one match at a time.
Following Samoa’s withdrawal from Group B, Fiji’s route to the knockout stage appears clearer, though still not easy.
The group now consists of three teams: Fiji, Cook Islands, and Tonga, and only the top two will advance to the semifinals.
Fiji will face Cook Islands at 1pm.
A win would place the Young Kulas in a strong position for semifinal qualification, while a loss would increase the pressure heading into their next game against Tonga.
