The Navakavu Blue Economic Zone cabinet paper received unanimous support that is envisioned to foster economic growth, alleviate poverty, and preserve the region's natural resources through 33 diverse projects covering approximately 960 acres.

Yavusa Navakavu community is located in the District of Suva in the Province of Rewa.

This momentous decision came to fruition following a workshop held on the 15th of February, where community leaders, stakeholders, and experts gathered to discuss the comprehensive Phase 2 Strategic Plan for the Navakavu Blue Economic Zone, spanning the period from 2024 to 2028.

According to Yavusa Navakavu, these initiatives include the development of wharves, mangrove forest reserves, medical centres, sports facilities, and aquaculture initiatives, reflecting a steadfast commitment to responsible land use and resource management.

They say the National Oceans Policy and National Development Plans of the government are in perfect harmony with the innovative community-driven, Navakavu Blue Economic Zone project.

They add recognizing the significance of sustainable development, the Yavusa Navakavu community are collaborating with the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development to draft a cabinet paper.

They say the community's unanimity in supporting economic growth, social alleviation, and the preservation of Fiji's distinctive marine habitats is made clear by this.

They also say a standout contribution of the Navakavu Blue Economic Zone lies in its potential to mitigate the negative impacts of urbanization in the Lami Town to Navua growth corridor.

They further say by strategically developing public infrastructure, the Yavusa Navakavu community aims to prevent uncontrolled urban sprawl, preserving the region's natural beauty and ensuring that proposed economic activities align with sustainable practices.
