Minister for Education Premila Kumar.

Minister for Education Premila Kumar says they had made several attempts to ensure that all the teachers get the COVID-19 vaccine however some teachers had made it clear that they will not be vaccinated.

Kumar says according to the law, teachers that are not fully vaccinated by this Sunday will have their contracts terminated.

It was earlier revealed that the Ministry is looking at 344 teachers who will be terminated under the no jab no job policy.

About 99 teachers have requested for an exemption on medical grounds and the Ministry of Health is looking into this.

Kumar also says that teachers whose contracts will be terminated can still apply for a job with the Ministry when there is a vacancy provided they get vaccinated.

She has revealed that some of these teachers later decided to get vaccinated and have received the first dose however their contracts will also be terminated if they fail to meet the deadline on Sunday.
