As the Suva and Nausori lockdown period begins from 11pm tonight to 4am Wednesday, the Permanent Secretary for Health Doctor James Fong says at this stage, they have not made a recommendation either way on the lockdown measures expanding to other areas or lengthening in duration.

Doctor Fong says this lockdown must be decisive and it can be if everyone cooperates.

He says the Fiji Police Force will be enforcing the stay-at-home order on the streets and they cannot be in every community.

Doctor Fong says they cannot stop every needless and potentially deadly interaction between different households.

He says some people living in Suva and Nausori will receive a call or a text asking them to come over, hang out, or otherwise violate the lockdown measures.

Doctor Fong says for the rest of Viti Levu, the new curfew hours from 6pm until 4am come into effect from tomorrow.

He says if you are living in Suva or Nausori and you find yourself feeling unwell at any point through the next four days, call 158.

Doctor Fong says a team will visit you, or you may be referred to a screening clinic where travel is permitted for medical emergencies.

He says everyone can receive treatment if they need it and that has always included kidney dialysis patients who need to travel to receive life-sustaining treatment.
