We can’t wait for 2027 to find out if a player is ready or not - Byrne

The Fiji Water Flying Fijians are not waiting for 2027 to know if a player is ready or not, as preparations for the Rugby World Cup in Australia are starting now with the inclusion of new and young players.

Coach Mick Byrne says they cannot wait till 2027 to find out if a player is ready or not, but they are asking for understanding when they bring in new players.

He says they have to find out sooner rather than later by giving the younger players the opportunity to find out about themselves around the level of Test rugby.

The coach says the good thing is that young players realise early what it takes to step up to Test level.

He says when they started this year, they wanted to give all the players who were part of the RWC 2023 an opportunity to come back and also see where they are as a coaching group.

The Flying Fijians play Manu Samoa at 6pm tomorrow in the first round of the Asahi Super Dry Pacific Nations Cup at the HFC Bank Stadium.
