Waste Recyclers Fiji Limited (WRFL) has once again been recognised with the Best Sustainability Initiative Award at the Prime Minister’s International Business Awards, held at the Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort.

CEO and Director of Waste Recyclers, Amitesh Deo says the recognition is deeply meaningful for the organisation and the people behind it.

Deo says the award is dedicated to those who have faced pushback, corporate bullying and closed doors, yet continued to persevere in advancing sustainability.

He says the award carries personal significance, reflecting years of resilience and advocacy.

Deo says sustainability is not something you do to look good in a report or win an award; it is something you live for.

He says for them recycling advocates, this has always been their life’s work and they have stood firm through years of resistance and silence, and today they accept this award on behalf of every person whose voice was ignored, every organisation that was told to wait, and everyone who continued to believe that change was possible.

The CEO says their journey has not been easy because for years, recycling was met with reluctance from key stakeholders and its importance was often overlooked, however, the company remained steadfast in its mission, continuing to champion environmental responsibility even when few supported the cause.

Deo noted that this year’s recognition also carries historical significance, echoing past milestones such as WRFL’s win of the Unique Exporter of the Year Award at the Prime Minister’s International Business Awards in 2003.

He says combined with its accolades in 2003, 2023 and now 2025, WRFL’s track record reflects long-term innovation, resilience and a commitment to principle.

He further says that the award is a symbol of what can be achieved when persistence meets purpose, and a reminder that voices advocating for change, even if ignored it can ultimately shape national progress.
