Suva number eight and loose forward Elizabeth Waqavou produced a stunning performance, scoring a hat-trick to help Suva edge Kadavu in a thrilling semi final clash and book their place in the Subrail Marama Championship final against Namosi.

The much-anticipated showdown between the Kadavu women’s team and the reigning champions Suva kicked off at a high tempo, with both sides determined to secure a place in the grand final.

Kadavu struck first through winger Mereisi Naigogo, before their fullback crossed the line to extend the lead to 10-0.

Suva responded in the 22nd minute with a try from fullback Livia Naidei, cutting the deficit to 10-5.

Waqavou then powered over in the 36th minute to give Suva a 12-10 lead heading into the halftime break.

The second half proved to be a tense and evenly matched contest, with both sides exchanging tries.

The score was locked at 31-31 in the dying moments before Suva broke through to score the winning try just as the final hooter sounded.

With this dramatic victory, Suva advances to face Namosi in the Subrail Women’s Cup final next Saturday.
