Wake-up call for relevant authorities after 15-year-old boy beaten up in Sports City

A 15-year-old boy was beaten up by a group of young boys at Sports City in Laucala Bay which has served as a wake-up call to relevant authorities to try and come up with solutions on how to counter these issues, especially with juveniles roaming our streets and being exposed to trouble or being troublemakers.

When fijivillage News arrived at the scene, the young boy was being assisted by a concerned member of the public who contacted us about the incident.

While being questioned by fijivillage News, the victim said there have been rivalries between them for a while, and the three boys took advantage of it when they saw him alone at Sports City, where they beat him up badly.

He says they stole the money he has been collecting and his shoes as well.

fijivillage News contacted the Child Welfare Officers to help the badly injured boy.

When the Officers arrived almost 40 minutes later, the victim had already left the scene, as he had told us that he just wanted to go as he was scared.

The victim had also told us that he stays in Raiwaqa, but he roams the street during the day to look for money, and goes home in the evening.

We have alerted the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection regarding this incident and are awaiting their response.
