Following concerns raised by residents in Lautoka regarding road conditions in Vuda Back Road, Wairebetia, Vaivai and Navula, the Fiji Roads Authority says Vuda Back Road is part of their Forward Works Plan while their current focus is on health centres, schools, police posts and village frontage sealing.

Lautoka resident Khelvin Sharma says bus companies have not been servicing the Vuda Back Road route since last year and students have to be taken to the main road in carriers.

He says about 120 families in Vuda have also been affected by bad road conditions.

Sharma says FRA has graded the road but it has not been completely repaired.

He says rainy weather worsens the condition of the road and it becomes more dangerous.

The resident says the community set up the Vuda Roads Committee to have these issues addressed with the relevant authorities.

He says a meeting was called with government officials and an assurance was given that bus service will be provided twice a day but that continued for two weeks only.

While responding to questions by fijivillage News, FRA says Vuda Back Road is currently in trafficable condition and bus service is operating normal while the road has been progressively maintained every year.

FRA says last grading and compaction activity was on the second of this month.

They say road being dusty is common for all unsealed roads in the Western Division during extended dry weather periods.

FRA further says Wairabetia Road, Vaivai Road and Navula Road are currently in trafficable condition and were graded last month.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica who met with the residents last Wednesday has assured them that their concerns will be addressed as soon as possible.

Kamikamica says the residents raised a lot of the issues that will need other ministries to be involved.

He says not everything is going to be resolved straight away but he has promised that it will be addressed as soon as it can.

We have sent questions to the Land Transport Authority regarding bus service. They are yet to respond.
