The man who has led Vodafone Fiji Limited successfully as its first and only Managing Director over the last 20 years finishes off today.

Aslam Khan who was a young and budding engineer with Fiji Post and Telecom was offered to lead Vodafone back in 1993.

He said that he was a reluctant Managing Director but perhaps it is one decision in his life that he never regrets.

Khan said Vodafone commenced operations with 35 staff based at Gordon Street.

The first three years was a real struggle and the economic climate was bleak however he said that did not deter them.

Aslam Khan said over the past 20 years they have focused on delivering the latest technology to the people and he believes everyone has benefitted from this.

The board of Vodafone said Khan has managed the company from infancy through to some very challenging times and market transitions.

It said the most notable achievement has been to successfully lead the company into competition after the deregulation of the telecommunications sector in 2008.

Moving into the future, Aslam Khan says he will look at various options.

However he confirmed that he is not looking at politics at all.

Khan said he is moving to Switzerland soon to be with his wife, Nazhat Shameem who has taken up a diplomatic posting in Geneva.

He also revealed that he wants to ensure that his two cats and a dog are well accommodated at their Nadi farmhouse before he leaves.

Meanwhile Pradeep Lal, the Chief Operating Officer at Vodafone will succeed Aslam Khan at the mobile company.

Lal has been with the company for over 10 years and has comprehensive knowledge of the telecommunication industry and wealth of experience and expertise in the areas of Strategic Planning and Leadership, Finance, Sales and Marketing.
