Sydney residents have been told to stay at home

Victoria will go on lockdown from midnight to stop the spread of COVID cases in Australia.

There was 15 cases recorded yesterday but the number of cases reported now is 26.

Acting Premier James Merlino says health authorities had detected more than 10,000 people in Victoria who are close contacts.

Merlino says they have identified more than 10,000 primary and secondary contacts who will need to either quarantine or test and isolate.

He says that number will continue to grow and the public health experts’ primary concern is just how fast this variant is moving.
