VegFest Fiji is encouraging people to eat plant-base foods to combat the various life style diseases that people are facing and die from every year.

VegFest Nutritionist Ben Czapnik says the idea is to show that it is possible to enjoy a very satisfying diet which is healthy and protective against NCDs.

He says they want to promote the increased consumption of Fijian plant foods like fruits, vegetables, crops and legumes.

VegFest Nutritionist Vittoria Pasca says 50 people attended the dinner and she is encouraging people to come forward and try their plant base dishes.

She says the menu for the dinner included lightly spicy tomato and bean soup, loaded hummus mushroom stack with vudi, ota, pumpkin and beetroot cream, baked pineapple and chili salt, and black forest chocolate truffles.

Pasca says the feedback received from participants was very positive as they appreciated the creativity of the menu and the way traditional vegetables were used to create more exotic, fusion flavors.
