The upgrade of the Valelevu Health Centre, which is aligned with the recently approved six-year Pacific Health Highlands Transformation Project, has been highlighted in Parliament.
This is after Opposition MP Jone Usamate questioned the Minister for Health on whether there are plans to expand the facility.
Dr Lalabalavu says the Ministry’s current plan for the Valelevu Health Centre is to undertake major refurbishment and infrastructure upgrades, noting that the new build will meet current service demands.
He says they are also exploring options for provisional and other essential services during the construction phase.
The Minister stresses that the Pacific Health Highlands Transformation Project focuses on upgrading health systems and infrastructure that deliver primary health care.
When questioned for a specific timeline, Dr Lalabalavu says the Pacific Health Highlands Transformation Project is part of a broader initiative that will progress alongside the overall development of the health centre, adding that the delivery of upgraded services in the area will take time.
