There was a standing ovation for University of the South Pacific gold medalist recipient Mahia Trinity Pareti Alfereti, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Information Systems.

Alfereti also topped her class in both subjects.

Alfereti says she won four awards, a gold medal for being the most outstanding student in the School of Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Physics, and the most outstanding female graduate from STEMP.

She won the highest marks in mathematics and physics.

The 24-year-old says she had to take a break during the pandemic, and returning to school was a big challenge.

She says she is thankful to the Lord, for his insight and wisdom, and also her parents and teachers for always supporting her.

Alfereti says it has been a fruitful two years and she will take one step at a time in deciding her next stop which is the workforce.

Meanwhile, 1,880 students graduated from USP today with 1,202 females.
